Southwest Is Resource Rich!

The Stadium District College Fund is available each fall to teens and young adults (age 12-24)  who reside in Southwest Washington, DC Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) Single Member District (SMD) 6D06, demonstrate financial need, and have a specific use for the funds that relates to education, training, sports, arts, or activities to further their skill or job training. Each fall the Fund offers a $1,000 and a $3,000 scholarship to support college costs as well as activities like basketball camps, subsidized university/college classes, music camp/private lessons, job training, job certification, and art classes/camp.

The Fall 2020 winner of the $3,000 scholarship was Anika Richard. Anika is also a 2020 ESTF Scholarship recipient.  She will leverage the scholarships to attend Old Dominion University to earn her Bachelor of Science in Human Services. The program is focused on preparing students for entry level positions in a wide variety of community services settings. Anika is the first in her family to attend college. Over the long term, she is excited to use her education to make a difference in the community, focusing on young people to help them overcome hurt, loss and isolation.
